Two-time and defending UCC Champion Lavon Miller and his dedicated team of family, friends and employees from Firepunk Diesel in Plain City, OH hope to go for the three-peat in 2018. Miller and his Dodge have dominated the drag racing portion of the past two UCC events and with continued refinements in power and chassis tuning and configuration they are expected to be at the top of the pack once again in 2018 with blazing fast speeds on the 1/4-mile Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis drag strip. In the past UCC competitions Miller laid waste to the field blasting down the strip up to 1-second quicker than his closest competition in 2016. In 2017 the competition gained on Miller, but he still bested the next quickest competitor by nearly a 1/2-second.
The Firepunk Diesel Dodge competition truck is no one-trick pony though as the triple-turbocharged 6.7L Cummins engine built by D&J Precision Machine has landed Miller on the second step of the podium with a common-rail engine in 2016 and a mechanical-injected engine in 2017. We can’t wait to see what the team shows up with for 2018, but we can be sure that it will have the potential to put down well over 2,000-horsepower and will have a good chance of landing on the podium once again possibly even breaking through and taking the top spot this year.
As a drag racer Miller has had some struggles on the pull track, but the Firepunk Diesel team developed chassis configurations to transform the truck into a pulling machine that took home second place in 2016 and scored well enough in 2017 to retain his Overall UCC Championship title. The small-town Ohio team doesn’t know the meaning of quit and will no-doubt iron out the wrinkles that kept Miller off the podium in the 2017 UCC pull competition and promise to be a force to be reckoned with once again.
Miller is backed by his own shop Firepunk Diesel as well as partnerships with premier race and diesel motorsport powerhouses including Aeromotive, AGI, Amzoil, Columbus Motorsports, D&J Precision Machine, Diesel Performance Converters, Exergy, TBM Brakes, Turn 14 Distribution, Vibrant Performance, Woolf, and Yukon Gear and Axle. After the amazing success Miller and his team have had with the truck here in UCC competition it would be very hard to bet against them turning in a stellar performance in 2018 to take the Overall UCC Championship title for a third consecutive time. While thirty other competitors stand in the Firepunk team’s way they have proven that they know how to rise to the occasion and deliver when the moment comes like any great champion. We don’t know whether they will come out on top or not, but we certainly look forward to finding out when the rubber hits the track, rollers and dirt May 4th-6th 2018 and the third annual Ultimate Callout Challenge!
